Commercial Disputes, Torts and Contracts

A number of members undertake both general and specialist civil work outside the scope of the other law teams. This work covers the full range of private and commercial disputes in the fields of contract, negligence, nuisance and other torts, building disputes, breach of statutory duty and related areas. Some members have particular experience of contractual claims involving defective goods or foods that were never supplied, whether or not giving rise to exclusion clauses issues. We have regularly acted in disputes over title to goods and in claims brought for the recovery of goods. In addition to a wide range of private clients, this work is also undertaken for business clients ranging from sole traders to national companies, insurers, and financial institutions. Within this general common law area there are members who have particular expertise in claims arising from professional negligence by surveyors, accountants, solicitors, auditors, valuers, architects, engineers and financial institutions.

Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence

A number of members of chambers deal with the full range of claims involving personal injuries and fatal accidents. The claims range in monetary value from the smaller claims to multi-track actions of very high value. Motor claims, employers liability, occupational disease, criminal injuries, product liability and occupiers' liability are all dealt with. Members of this group have an excellent grasp of medical issues in forming the assessment of damages. Similarly members have significant experience of dealing with liability in clinical negligence cases including those involving general practice, obstetrics, dentistry and orthopaedics.
