Chambers operates an equal opportunities policy: we do not discriminate directly or indirectly against or victimise anyone on the grounds of their race, colour, ethnic or national origin, nationality, citizenship, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, religion, age or political persuasion and we fully endorse the Bar Council’s Equality Code.
Maternity Leave – Chambers complies with all statutory requirements concerning maternity leave in respect of staff taking maternity leave. In respect of individual barristers taking maternity leave Chambers will allow the barrister three months rent free during any maternity leave period. Chambers will also hold open the members’ room in chambers for a period of one year from the start of any maternity leave.
Recruitment and Monitoring
All prospective candidates for staff vacancies and pupillage will be asked to complete an Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form (SM 6). These forms will be filed separately to any application form. The Administrator will collate the results of these forms and prepare such reports as may be deemed necessary for the purposes of Equal Opportunities monitoring and any reports made to the Management Committee as necessary.
All advertisements for vacancies will state the fact that Chambers is an equal opportunities employer.
Training
All new pupils, tenants and members are asked to read the Quality Manual in order to familiarise themselves with all Chambers policies and procedures including those pertaining to equal opportunities. Any additional training is arranged as necessary.
